Towards sustainable e-learning: Pimenko and its path to a reduced carbon footprint

In a world where technology is redefining many aspects of our existence, the environmental footprint of companies in the digital sector is a major issue. At Pimenko, our mission goes beyond simply providing digital training solutions; we’re committed to operating sustainably. This article looks back at our journey towards a reduced carbon footprint, illustrating our commitment to responsible digital business.

Carbon footprint: why is it crucial?

The carbon footprint measures greenhouse gas emissions generated directly or indirectly by an entity, and we felt it was essential. For a technology company like Pimenko, understanding and reducing this footprint is crucial, not only for the environment, but also for maintaining responsible and transparent services. Digital activities, although often invisible, have a tangible and significant impact on our environment.

Our collaboration with Corpokarma

Our collaboration with Corpokarma, a Lyon-based consulting and innovation agency specializing in sustainable development, was essential. Thanks to their expertise, we were able to map our processes and quantify our emissions precisely, resulting in an estimate of 46 tonnes of CO2 for the year 2023. The fine work of data collection and the final assessment have established a solid basis for the rest of our carbon footprint.

Results and achievements

The results were revealing: our carbon intensity is four times lower than the average for our sector. This performance is encouraging, but it also marks the beginning of a commitment that we want to confirm, and which requires continuous improvement. Our data shows where we excel and where we can still improve. To further refine our measurements in the future, we plan to engage our suppliers in our ecological approach and be able to improve estimates for service purchases, thus ensuring even more accurate measurement of our environmental impact.

Towards digital responsibility

Adopting a responsible digital approach means integrating practices that reduce the environmental footprint while maximizing efficiency. At Pimenko, this means optimizing the lifespan of our IT equipment: its manufacture can account for up to 80% of its carbon footprint, and this equipment is an important part of our digital environmental footprint. We also adopt eco-design approaches in our development and production processes.

More generally, we pay particular attention to waste, energy consumption and mobility. It is therefore quite logical that our carbon footprint shows that a major challenge lies in our purchasing, which accounts for 69% of our footprint. We have identified several areas for improvement:

  • Integrate responsible purchasing practices with our suppliers
  • Raising our employees’ awareness of nutrition and reducing red meat consumption.
  • Reassess the need for certain business trips and optimize their organization.
  • Reflection on the choice of servers and digital equipment to optimize their environmental impact.

Carbon trajectory

Corpokarma also helped us formalize our roadmap for the coming years. It includes ambitious initiatives to further reduce our carbon footprint. We aim to improve our energy efficiency, integrate more low-emission solutions and raise awareness among our employees, suppliers and customers of the importance of sustainable action.

Our vision for tomorrow

At Pimenko, we’re committed to playing our part in this transformation, to contribute in our own way to environmental issues, not only for our own benefit but also for the good of the planet. We’re looking forward to sharing our progress and continuing to improve. Follow our progress and join us for a more sustainable future! Together, we can make a difference.
