Moodle

Pimenko has been helping French and international organizations set up and operate Moodle platforms for over 15 years. We are a certified Moodle Partner, one of the few companies in France to have received this formal recognition from Moodle HQ and to be listed with UGAP.

To date, we have deployed more than a hundred platforms in a wide variety of settings: cultural foundations, French and international public institutions, higher education institutions, training networks, and NGOs. We provide ongoing maintenance for about 100 of them.

It is the go-to platform for organizations seeking a flexible, sustainable, and self-hosted learning solution with no per-user licensing fees and no dependence on a proprietary vendor.

Its rich native functionality, its ecosystem of more than 2,000 plugins, and its compatibility with interoperability standards (SCORM, LTI, xAPI) make it the solution of choice for universities, prestigious higher education institutions, public institutions, international NGOs, and training organizations of all sizes.

Custom plugin development

When standard Moodle isn’t enough, we develop extensions that are permanently integrated into your environment. Our team has designed more than thirty plugins that have been published on the Moodle Marketplace or developed specifically for clients. Among the best-known contributions are: AdminPreset (integrated into the core of Moodle since version 4.0), Ludilearn (adaptive gamification, developed as part of the Ludimoodle+ project with ComUE Université de Lyon), the Program plugin for managing multi-course learning paths, DigiBoard for tracking and analysis, KeepUsers for automatic engagement reminders, and the Yparéo integration plugins.

Integration with your information system

That is often where the real complexity lies—and one of our most well-documented areas of expertise. We have implemented authentication integrations using various protocols: SAML2, OpenID Connect, CAS, Keycloak, OAuth2, Microsoft, and Google. We are also developing integrations with student and training management tools (Yparéo, Apogée, LDAP/Active Directory), including bidirectional synchronization in production environments involving thousands of users.

Ongoing support and guidance

After deployment, a platform is a living, evolving entity that encounters unforeseen challenges. Our Moodle-certified team is available to answer technical and instructional questions through our online helpdesk, our specialized documentation, or by contacting our engineers directly.
We provide support for both the “run” (day-to-day operations, incidents, updates) and the “build” (functional enhancements, new Moodle versions, scalability).

Audit and Performance

When a platform slows down, crashes during exams, or quietly accumulates technical debt, an audit helps pinpoint exactly what’s wrong. We work on existing platforms, regardless of their origin, providing a prioritized technical and organizational implementation plan.

Design and Customization

A Moodle platform should reflect your organization, not be a generic setup. Our team of developers and graphic designers customizes every visual and functional aspect: brand guidelines, usability, and simplified interfaces tailored to user profiles.
Our Pimenko theme, available for free on GitHub to the entire Moodle community, is compatible with Moodle versions 3.11 through 5.0. It features a responsive design, intuitive navigation on all devices, and compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.

Track learner engagement, measure the impact of training courses, and identify content that works: Moodle offers built-in reporting tools that we configure to meet your needs. We set up custom reports and, if necessary, integrations with third-party analytics tools or xAPI-compatible Learning Record Stores (LRS).

What is a Certified Moodle Partner?

Moodle Partner status is awarded by Moodle HQ following a formal evaluation of the quality of the company’s work, the level of expertise of its teams, and its active contribution to the open-source ecosystem. It can’t be bought or declared—it has to be verified.

Specifically, this status gives us priority access to support from Moodle HQ and information about upcoming updates before they are released. It certifies a direct contribution to the platform’s development, equivalent to 10% of our Moodle revenue, which is remitted to Moodle HQ. And he has established a formal relationship with the development teams, which has allowed us, among other things, to integrate our AdminPreset plugin into the core of Moodle since version 4.0.

Our commitment to the ecosystem goes beyond our role as a company. Members of our team hold the Moodle Educator Qualification (MEQ), the teaching certification, or the Moodle Administrator Qualification (MAQ), the leading technical certification for administrators issued by Moodle HQ.

Pimenko, listed with UGAP

Since March 2025, Pimenko has been officially listed with UGAP, the French public procurement agency. For local governments, public institutions, and government agencies, this significantly simplifies procurement procedures: no specific competitive bidding is required, contract negotiation times are reduced, and there is a guarantee that the service provider has been evaluated for quality and compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Moodle over a proprietary LMS solution?

A proprietary LMS involves per-user licensing costs, a reliance on the vendor for updates, and data hosted on infrastructure that you do not control. Moodle is open source: there are no licensing fees, it has a global community that continuously improves the platform, and it offers complete freedom in terms of hosting and customization. For public organizations and institutions that handle sensitive data, it is also a matter of digital sovereignty.

What distinguishes a certified Moodle Partner from a non-certified integrator?

A Moodle integrator can deploy and configure the platform without having been evaluated by Moodle HQ. Moodle Partner status is granted following a formal review of the quality of the organization’s work, the expertise of its teams, and its contribution to the ecosystem. It is an external guarantee—not a sworn statement.

Are you registered for government contracts?

Yes. Pimenko has been listed with UGAP since March 2025, which simplifies the purchasing process for local governments, public institutions, and government agencies. This has significantly reduced our competitive bidding processes.

Do you post on platforms you didn't create?

Yes. We perform audits, migrations, and maintenance takeovers on existing platforms, regardless of their origin. This is often how our most challenging projects begin.

Can we connect Moodle to our existing information system?

Yes—and this is one of our most well-documented areas of expertise. We have implemented complex SSO integrations (SAML2, OIDC, CAS, Keycloak, OAuth2) and integrations with student and training management tools (Yparéo, Apogée, Banner, LDAP/Active Directory).

Do you host your data in France?

Yes. All of our solutions for French customers are hosted in France on the infrastructure of Scaleway, a sovereign European cloud provider.

Are your platforms RGAA-compliant?

Yes. We incorporate RGAA recommendations (Level AA) starting from the design phase—graphic, functional, technical, and editorial. Our teams are trained in digital accessibility, and we use automated verification tools and manual testing with screen readers.
