Frequently Asked Questions About Our Moodle Marketplace Plugins
What is the Moodle Marketplace?
The Moodle Marketplace is the new official platform for distributing Moodle plugins, launched by Moodle HQ in 2026. It replaces the Plugins Directory on moodle.org. This is now the one-stop shop for finding, purchasing, and installing Moodle plugins, whether they’re free or paid.
What is the difference between free and paid plugins on the Moodle Marketplace?
Free plugins can be downloaded and installed without any payment. Paid plugins require payment, which may take the form of an annual subscription.
They include updates for the duration of the subscription and dedicated support.
At Pimenko, both free and paid plugins are developed according to the same technical standards and maintained for active versions of Moodle.
Are Pimenko plugins compatible with my version of Moodle?
Our paid plugins are compatible with Moodle 4.5 and later versions. Each product page lists the supported versions. As a certified Moodle Partner, we systematically test our plugins on active versions of Moodle—including beta versions—before each update.
Does buying from the Moodle Marketplace contribute to the Moodle project?
Yes, directly. Moodle HQ charges a commission on every sale made through the Marketplace (20% in the first year, then 25%). These revenues help fund the development of Moodle, an open-source project used by hundreds of millions of learners around the world. Buying a plugin on the Moodle Marketplace also helps ensure the ecosystem’s long-term viability.
Does one license cover multiple Moodle instances?
No. Each license covers one Moodle instance. If you manage several separate platforms, each instance requires its own license or a multi-site license.
What happens if I don't renew my subscription?
Our paid plugins require an active license. If you do not renew, access to the plugin will be disabled upon expiration.
This is a conscious decision on our part: an unmaintained plugin on an evolving platform is a promise we can no longer keep. We prefer to be clear about this rather than continue to run a tool for which we can no longer guarantee compatibility with future updates to Moodle.
Renewal is annual and can be arranged in advance through the Moodle Marketplace.
